Editing Softwares
- Adobe Premiere Pro - High quality, but requires subscription. (Some classes will provide a free temporary subscription.)
- DaVinci Resolve - Free download, but still high quality. Option to upgrade for money.
- iMovie - Free on Apple products, but less functionality/options.
- Final Cut Pro - Free 90-day trial. Requires purchase after trial expires.
- Avid - Used by professionals, and free for simple version; subscription required for higher quality/options.
Editing Terms - (examples linked in definitions)
- Continuity Editing - Editing in a way that maintains the audience's suspension of disbelief; makes the editing as unnoticeable as possible.
- Cut - Transitioning from one shot to another through an edit.
- Establishing Shot - Provides the audience with context of where/when a scene is occurring. This shot goes at the beginning of a scene and is normally a long shot (from far away and showing a lot of space). Subsequent shots are generally filmed closer in to the subject.
- Eyeline Match - The characters looks over, and then the film cuts to what they are looking at.
- Match on Action - An action begins in one shot and then completes after a cut to another shot.
- Shot-Reverse Shot - In a back and forth/conversation, the film cuts between the speakers as the conversation progresses.
- Graphic Match - objects of a similar color/shape occupy the same place in a frame across a cut.
